ABU Approves Amnesty for Overstayed Students

The Senate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has given some breathing room to students whose academic time ran out before they could finish. At its 550th regular meeting held on 29 May 2025, the Senate looked into the matter of overstayed students and made a clear decision.

What the Amnesty Covers

Students whose residency expired during the 2021/2022 or 2023/2024 academic sessions and still have outstanding courses can now go back and register for those courses.

What to Do Next

If you are affected, here’s what’s expected:

  • Register for your pending courses in the second semester of 2024/2025
  • Or during the first semester of 2025/2026
  • This is your chance to complete whatever is left and graduate

Action Needed

All students in this category should act quickly. Faculties are also expected to make arrangements to support this process. No need to wait until it’s too late.

If you’re unsure whether this applies to you, contact your department directly for confirmation.
