Edo State University Iyamho has opened its doors to new postgraduate students. If you want to earn a diploma, master’s or doctorate, here’s what you need to know about the programmes on offer and how to apply.

Programmes Available

Postgraduate courses run across multiple faculties. Here’s a breakdown by department:

Applied Health Sciences

  • Medical Laboratory Science: PGD, MSc, MPhil, PhD

    Options: Chemical Pathology, Haematology, Histopathology, Microbiology, Immunology
  • Nursing Science: PGD, MSc, MPhil, PhD

    Options: Maternal & Child Health, Surgical Nursing, Public Health, Mental Health Nursing

Arts, Management and Social Sciences

  • Accounting: PGD, MSc, PhD
  • Business Admin: PGD, MSc, MBA, MPhil, PhD
  • Economics: PGD, MSc, PhD
  • Mass Communication: PGD, MSc, MPhil, PhD
  • History & International Studies: PGD, MA, PhD
  • Political Science: MSc, PhD
  • Public Administration: PGD, MPA, PhD

Basic Medical Sciences

  • Biochemistry: MSc, PhD

Engineering

  • Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical/Electronic, Mechanical Engineering: PGD, M.Eng., MPhil, PhD

Science

  • Computer Science: PGD, MSc, MPhil, PhD
  • Microbiology: PGD, MSc, PhD

Law

  • Law: PGD, LLM, MPhil, MPhil/PhD, PhD

How Long Will It Take?

Programme lengths vary. Here’s the general outline:

  • PGD: 2 to 4 semesters
  • Master’s: 3 or 4 semesters minimum, up to 6
  • MPhil: 2 to 4 semesters
  • PhD: 6 to 10 semesters

Admission Requirements

General

All applicants need 5 O’level credits including Maths and English, in no more than two sittings. NYSC certificate or exemption is also required.

For PGD

  • A First Degree with at least Third Class in a related field
  • Or an HND in a relevant course
  • Or a recognised professional certificate

For Master’s (M.Eng., MSc., MA, MPA, MBA)

  • A Bachelor’s Degree with at least Second Class Lower
  • Or a PGD with credit
  • Or an approved professional qualification

For MPhil

  • A Master’s Degree with at least 50% average (CGPA 3.0/5)

For PhD

  • A Master’s Degree with 60% average (CGPA 4.0/5)
  • Candidates with 55% or CGPA 3.5 may be asked to take MPhil/PhD
  • Submit a short research proposal (max 450 words) with the application
