Federal University Dutse seeks new Vice-Chancellor for 2026

There’s a quiet countdown happening in Dutse. Come 10 February 2026, the office of the Vice-Chancellor at the Federal University Dutse will change hands. The Governing Council is already on the lookout for the right fit, and the call is open.

This is a university with roots in tradition but eyes on progress. Founded on 9 February 2011 as one of nine new federal universities, it sits in the historic capital of Jigawa State. Today, it holds eleven faculties, a College of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences, a School of Postgraduate Studies, and more than twenty thousand students. That’s a small city in itself.

The role in plain view

The Vice-Chancellor isn’t just a title for letterheads. It’s the chief executive and academic head, steering both daily operations and long-term plans. This person keeps academic standards strong, safeguards funds, and ensures policies don’t just sit on paper but shape real campus life. They also chair the Senate and serve on the Governing Council.

Key duties include:

  • Leading academic and administrative functions.
  • Keeping discipline, peace, and a fair environment.
  • Managing resources responsibly.
  • Building trust with staff, students, and the wider community.

Who can step up

The council is looking for someone who:

  • Is a recognised scholar with both academic and leadership depth.
  • Holds a PhD and has served as Professor for at least five years.
  • Brings no less than 15 years’ experience in teaching, research, and administration at university level.
  • Has a track record in attracting research grants and funding.
  • Knows how to create and maintain good relationships inside and outside the university.
  • Shows moral strength, integrity, and people skills.
  • Is skilled with ICT tools.
  • Communicates clearly.
  • Is in sound physical and mental health.

Terms, tenure, and age

  • Service conditions match those for Vice-Chancellors in federal universities.
  • One term only, lasting five years.
  • Applicants must be under 65 years old at the start date.
