Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria has invited applications from qualified candidates for vacant academic and non-teaching positions.

General requirement for academic roles

Academic ranks and qualifications

Professor

Applicants should possess a PhD in the relevant discipline, with at least three years as Reader or Associate Professor and fifteen years of university teaching and research experience.

The candidate must also have extensive publications in reputable journals, with evidence of academic leadership and membership of relevant professional bodies.

Reader

Applicants should possess a PhD, at least twelve years of university teaching or research experience, and a minimum of three years as Senior Lecturer.

Senior Lecturer

Applicants must possess a PhD, at least nine years of teaching and research experience, and at least three years as Lecturer I in a recognised university.

Lecturer I

Applicants should possess a Master’s degree in the relevant field, with at least six years of teaching and research experience and at least three years as Lecturer II in a recognised university.

A PhD in the relevant field will be an advantage. Applicants must also show teaching or research experience with scholarly publications.

Lecturer II

Applicants should possess at least a Master’s degree in the relevant field, with a minimum of three years as Assistant Lecturer in a recognised university, or a PhD in the relevant field.

Evidence of research output such as papers, workshops, or conferences will be an advantage.

Assistant Lecturer

Applicants should possess a Master’s degree in the relevant field.

Evidence of research potential is desirable.

Graduate Assistant

Applicants should possess a first degree in the relevant field from a recognised university with at least a Second-Class Upper Division.

The candidate must also show interest in an academic career.

Qualifications for non-teaching roles

Medical Officer

Applicants must possess an MBBS degree and full registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN.

Post-qualification clinical experience is an advantage.

Medical Scientist

Applicants must hold a B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Science with registration by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, MLSCN.

Technologist

Applicants must hold HND, B.Tech, or B.Sc. in relevant technical fields.

Registration with relevant professional bodies is required.

Nursing Officer

Applicants must possess RN/RM and B.Sc. in Nursing, where applicable.

A current licence with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria is required.

Confidential Secretary

Applicants must possess ND or HND in Secretarial Studies.

The role also requires proven ICT proficiency and strong communication skills.

Engineer

Applicants must hold B.Eng. or B.Tech. in relevant engineering disciplines.

COREN registration will be an advantage.

Planning Officer

Applicants must hold B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Geography, or related fields.

Experience in educational planning is desirable.

Statistician

Applicants must hold a B.Sc. in Statistics or Mathematics.

Competence in statistical packages is desirable.

Administrative Officer

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in the Social Sciences, Humanities, Education, or related fields.

The University also asks for strong communication and organisational skills.

Accountant II

Applicants must possess B.Sc. or HND in Accounting.

Professional certification such as ICAN or ANAN is an added advantage.

Data Processing Assistant

Applicants must possess OND or HND in Computer Science or related fields.

Practical ICT skills and the ability to handle data systems are required.

Motor Driver/Mechanic

Applicants must possess at least SSCE and a valid driver’s licence.

Trade Test certificates and clear vehicle maintenance experience are required.

Laboratory Attendant

Applicants must possess SSCE with credits in science subjects.

Experience in laboratory assistance will be an advantage.
