NUC granted the accreditation on 7 April 2026.

The approval followed an evaluation process that checked the listed programmes against prescribed national standards.

The accreditation will run for five years.

Areas Covered by the NUC Review

The National Universities Commission assessed both programmes across key areas.

The review covered:

The University stated that both programmes met and exceeded the required national standards.

MBBS Programme at Bayelsa Medical University

The Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery programme serves as the flagship programme of Bayelsa Medical University.

The University stated that the MBBS programme showed strong compliance with the benchmarks required for training medical professionals.

For students following BMU MBBS accreditation status, this approval gives a clear five-year NUC position on the programme.

Health Administration Programme Also Gets Full Accreditation

The Health Administration programme also received full accreditation.

The programme was commended for its role in producing skilled professionals who can manage and strengthen modern healthcare systems.

That point gives the approval a wider health-sector meaning; BMU is not speaking about Medicine alone here.

Vice-Chancellor Reacts to the Approval

The Vice-Chancellor of Bayelsa Medical University, Professor Dimie Ogoina, expressed joy over the accreditation.

He described the approval as a validation of the University’s vision, resilience and commitment to excellence.

Professor Ogoina also commended the joint effort of staff, students, Council and stakeholders. He said the result came from bold determination and linked it to the promise he made during his inauguration: “In two years I will transform the Bayelsa Medical University.”

BMU Community Receives Congratulations

Bayelsa Medical University congratulated its community on the accreditation of the MBBS and Health Administration programmes.

The approval stands as the current NUC accreditation status for both programmes and will remain valid for five years.
