IBBU Gets NUC Accreditation for 10 Courses

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, has received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission for 10 undergraduate courses.

One course, History and International Relations, received interim accreditation.

For students, parents, and the IBBU community, this update gives a direct view of the courses cleared by the NUC after its campus visit in October/November 2025.

NUC Grants Full Accreditation to 10 IBBU Courses

A letter from the National Universities Commission confirmed the accreditation result for Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai.

The letter was signed by the Commission’s Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu. It was addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of IBBU, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman.

The Commission said it acted under Section 10(1) of the Education (National Minimum Standard and Establishment of Institutions) Act, CAP E 3, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2024.

That section gives the NUC the mandate to set Minimum Academic Standards for all academic programmes offered by Nigerian universities and to accredit those programmes.

IBBU Courses With Full NUC Accreditation

The undergraduate courses granted full accreditation are:

1. Business Administration
2. Agriculture
3. French Language
4. Islamic Studies
5. Agricultural Education
6. Education Geography
7. Education Mathematics
8. Guidance and Counselling
9. Biotechnology
10. Geology

These courses now carry full NUC accreditation status.

Course With Interim Accreditation

History and International Relations received interim accreditation.

The course has its maturity date for another accreditation exercise in 2027, while the other courses listed have their maturity date in 2030.

That means the programme will face another NUC review earlier than the fully accredited courses.

Vice-Chancellor Reacts to the NUC Result

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, thanked the National Universities Commission for the result.

He said the university would do everything humanly possible to maintain quality and meet NUC requirements.

He also said IBB University, Lapai, remains focused on improving its ranking.

The Vice-Chancellor described the university as being on its way to achieving its vision of becoming a world-class centre of excellence driven by people, partnership, science, and technology.

IBBU Thanks Niger State Government and Ministries

Professor Sulaiman thanked the Executive Governor of Niger State and Visitor to the University, Farmer Umaru Mohammed Bago, for financial support to IBBU.

He also appreciated the Ministry of Tertiary Education, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for their support.

The Vice-Chancellor said IBB University, Lapai, is among the few universities in Nigeria with most of its programmes fully accredited.

Staff and Students Urged to Stay Committed

Professor Sulaiman urged staff and students to remain resolute as the university works for the growth of Niger State and Nigeria.

The NUC accreditation teams visited the IBBU campus between October and November 2025 for the exercise.

For the university community, the result marks another clear step in its academic drive.
