LASU Convocation 2026 Dates & Graduand Guide

Lagos State University, LASU, has announced the programme of events for its 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies.
The Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, npom, gave the notice on behalf of the management and staff of the university to graduands of the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions, parents, guardians, stakeholders, the university community and the public.
The combined convocation ceremonies will run from Wednesday, 12 August to Sunday, 23 August 2026.
LASU Pre-Convocation Events
The pre-convocation activities will begin on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, with a press conference and a sports competition for staff.
Day 1: Wednesday, 12 August 2026
Convocation Press Conference
The Convocation Press Conference will hold at the First Floor, Senate Chamber, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
The time is 10:00 a.m.
Convocation Sports Competition for Staff
The Convocation Sports Competition for Staff will take place at the LASU Sports Centre, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
The event starts at 12:00 noon.
LASU Convocation Events
The main convocation events will cover staff celebration, cultural activities, religious services, degree awards, a convocation lecture, doctorate awards and thanksgiving.
Day 2: Thursday, 13 August 2026
Staff Celebration Day will hold at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
Staff members will dress to represent their individual tribes, and the event will start at 2:00 p.m.
Day 3: Friday, 14 August 2026
Coconut Breaking and Cultural Day
Coconut Breaking and Cultural Day will hold at the Badagry Gate Entrance, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
The event starts at 9:00 a.m.
Convocation Jumat Service
The Convocation Jumat Service will take place at the University Mosque, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
The service starts at 1:00 p.m.
Day 4: Monday, 17 August 2026
LASU will award Diplomas, First Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas and Master’s Degrees in Engineering, Agriculture and Science.
The ceremony will hold at the Olatunji Bello Auditorium, Epe Campus, Epe, Lagos, by 10:00 a.m.
Day 5: Tuesday, 18 August 2026
Convocation Lecture
The Convocation Lecture will hold at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
The time is 9:00 a.m.
Award of Other Diplomas and Degrees
LASU will award other Diplomas, First Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas and Master’s Degrees on the same day.
The ceremony will hold at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos, by 10:00 a.m.
Day 6: Wednesday, 19 August 2026
The award of Professional and Academic Doctorate Degrees, PhD, and the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees will hold on Wednesday, 19 August 2026.
The venue is Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos, and the time is 10:00 a.m.
Day 7: Sunday, 23 August 2026
The Special Convocation Thanksgiving Service will hold at the University Chapel, also known as Chapel of Light, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
The service starts at 10:00 a.m.
Notice to LASU Graduands
LASU has released clear instructions for all graduands of the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
Graduands who want to pay for the convocation package should visit the LASU convocation payment portal and follow the payment instructions.
Academic Gown Return and Penalties
Graduands must return academic gowns immediately after the ceremony, with the latest return date fixed for Friday, 21 August 2026.
Any graduand who keeps the academic gown after Friday, 21 August 2026, will pay a fine of ₦1,000.00 for each day of default.
A graduand who loses or damages an academic gown will pay a replacement fee of ₦36,000.00 for First Degree graduands and ₦45,000.00 for Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s graduands.
Certificate Collection
Certificates will be ready for collection immediately after the Convocation Ceremony.
This applies only after the graduand returns the academic gown.
Cap, Tassel and Academic Dress Rules
First degree graduands will move the tassels of their caps from right to left at the point where the Vice-Chancellor declares, “I admit you all”.
That act marks their admission into the body of graduates of Lagos State University, LASU.
Higher degree recipients should wear their caps with the tassels on the left-hand side, since they already hold first degrees.
Graduands should ask Faculty Officers or School Secretaries for help so that the hood and cap sit well, with the tassels placed on the right where required.
Female graduands should show courtesy when they shake hands with the Vice-Chancellor.
Male graduands should bow, but they should not remove their caps.
Seating and Movement Rules for LASU Convocation
Parents, guardians and invited guests should sit down not later than 8:30 a.m. on each convocation day.
Graduands must join the Convocation Procession by 9:00 a.m.; anyone who fails to do so will not enter the University Auditorium.
Each faculty will have seats set aside for its graduands.
LASU will not allow unauthorised movement or photography during the convocation ceremony. Graduands should take photographs before entering the University Auditorium or wait until the ceremony ends.
Any graduand who leaves a seat while the ceremony is going on will not return to the auditorium.
Graduands and invited guests seated under the canopy outside the University Auditorium should maintain order and stand as the Academic Procession enters and leaves the convocation venue.
Graduands must robe properly and follow the colour prescribed for their faculties.
All graduands should start and complete clearance at their Colleges, Schools or Faculties before the convocation so that they can collect their degree certificates without delay.
