The management of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, has released a notice for newly admitted students in the 2025/2026 academic session on how to apply for institutional charges and upkeep loans.
According to the statement signed by Lamara Garba, mnipr, Director of Public Affairs, for the Registrar, students who have completed their screening and want to apply are expected to follow a set of clear instructions. The message is direct; complete the form properly, upload the right records, and avoid errors that may slow the process.
Who the NELFUND notice is for
The notice is for newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session who have completed their screening and want to apply for:
- institutional charges loan
- upkeep loan
Key instructions for NELFUND applicants
Students are expected to follow all the stated directions during the application stage.
Upload all required documents
NELFUND said all required and appropriate documents must be properly uploaded.
That point sits at the centre of the notice. Missing files or poorly uploaded records may affect the application.
Submit both loan requests together
Applications for institutional charges and upkeep loans are to be submitted at the same time.
Students are not expected to separate the two requests. The process, as stated, should be done together.
Avoid microfinance wallet accounts
The notice warned against the use of microfinance bank wallet accounts such as Opay and Moniepoint.
Applicants are expected to avoid such accounts during the process.
Avoid special characters
Students are also advised to avoid unnecessary or special characters while filling the form.
A small error here can become a real problem later; the notice keeps that warning plain.
Use correct email details and keep passwords safe
NELFUND also directed students to use accurate email addresses and passwords that are well known to them and securely kept.
That means the login details used for the application should be correct and easy for the student to access later.
Official NELFUND portal for application
Students are advised to complete their application through the official NELFUND application portal.
What applicants should note
The notice asks students to follow the guidelines strictly to avoid delays or disqualification.
For applicants, the message is simple and sharp: upload the right documents, apply for both loan types together, avoid wallet accounts, and enter clean details from start to finish.
