Federal Government declares Easter public holidays for 2026

The Federal Government has declared Friday, 3 April 2026, and Monday, 6 April 2026, as public holidays for this year’s Easter celebration.

That announcement sets the two Easter dates clearly; Friday for Good Friday, and Monday for Easter Monday.

Minister of Interior announces the Easter holidays

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government.

The announcement came through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

Message to Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora

While marking the occasion, the minister congratulated Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on Easter.

He also urged Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love, as shown in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. That call sits at the centre of the Easter message.

Government restates its goal

The minister restated that the goal of the government remains to make decisions that would bring about national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity.
