Academic Credential Authentication Now Fully Online

The Federal Ministry of Education has fully automated the process for the authentication and evaluation of academic credentials.

The move forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency, improve data management, and improve public service delivery. The Ministry also links the change to the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda and its push to use modern technology to support data integrity and evidence-based policy decisions in the education sector.

What has changed

All applications for authentication and evaluation of academic credentials will now be processed strictly online.

Applicants are no longer expected to visit the Federal Ministry of Education for physical verification. The entire process will now take place electronically; that is the new rule.

How to apply for academic credential authentication

Applicants are required to complete the process online through the Ministry’s official verification portal.

They are to use the official academic credential verification portal for the application.

Create an account and upload documents

Each applicant must register on the portal and upload all relevant supporting documents.

The process starts there, and the records must be submitted through the platform.

Request transcript submission from the awarding school

Applicants must also contact their awarding school and request that academic transcripts be sent directly from the school’s official email address to ess1@education.gov.ng.

The Ministry states that this step is required for verification and processing.

What applicants should note

The Ministry has made it clear that physical verification at its office is no longer part of the process.

The change is meant to simplify the procedure, reduce processing time, and strengthen the credibility and integrity of academic credential verification in Nigeria. For applicants, the message is plain enough: use the portal, upload the required papers, and ensure the transcript comes from the awarding school.
