Workers' Day: FG Declares Friday May 1 Public Holiday

The Federal Government has declared Friday a public holiday so workers across Nigeria can mark International Workers’ Day on 1 May.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government. The notice came through a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the ministry.

Minister praises Nigerian workers

Mr Tunji-Ojo praised Nigerian workers for their hard work and steady dedication to national development.

He said their service remains central to Nigeria’s growth and prosperity. That message was direct.

The minister asked workers to hold on to patriotism, productivity and service, while stressing that such values support sustainable development. He kept the focus on duty, unity and the role workers play in building the country.

FG restates support for workers’ welfare

The Federal Government said it remains committed to the welfare and security of all workers.

Mr Tunji-Ojo added that government would keep working to create a favourable environment for economic growth, a point that speaks to both workers and employers without stretching beyond the official statement.

He also encouraged workers to use the Workers’ Day celebration to reflect on unity and hard work. Nation-building, as presented in the statement, depends on those habits.

Message to workers ahead of 1 May

Mr Tunji-Ojo congratulated workers across Nigeria and wished them a peaceful Workers’ Day celebration on 1 May.
