FUTMINNA postgraduate admission form 2025/2026

The Federal University of Technology, Minna, FUTMINNA, has announced the start of applications for its 2025/2026 postgraduate programmes.

The admission covers PhD, MPhil/PhD, Master’s, and Postgraduate Diploma programmes across several Schools and Centres. The process runs fully online; candidates are expected to follow each step with care.

General admission requirements

PhD programmes

Candidates must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree from FUTMINNA or any recognised university
  • Have a minimum weighted average of 60 percent, or CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale

Departments may prescribe additional courses where a candidate’s background is considered weak.

Master’s degree programmes

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree from a recognised university
  • Third Class Honours degree with at least two years post-graduation experience
  • HND with Lower Credit plus Postgraduate Diploma with Lower Credit and one year experience

Some candidates may be required to pass a qualifying examination. Where this applies, an extra fee of N2,000 is charged.

MPhil/PhD programmes

Candidates must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in the relevant field or related area
  • Have a minimum CGPA of 2.50

Applicants who do not meet the 3.50 CGPA for PhD may be considered for MPhil/PhD if they meet the 2.50 requirement.

Candidates with professional Master’s degrees are not eligible. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must provide an English proficiency certificate.

Three referee reports are required.

Postgraduate diploma programmes

Candidates may apply with:

  • Third Class Honours degree
  • HND with Lower Credit
  • OND Lower Credit with one year experience

Important admission notes

  • NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate is required
  • Candidates with PASS grade at any level do not qualify
  • Diploma holders must have at least CGPA 2.50 for Master’s admission
  • Final admission decision rests with the Postgraduate School Board
  • All Master’s programmes include coursework and research; thesis defence is required

Duration of programmes

PhD

  • Full-time: minimum 6 semesters, maximum 10 semesters
  • Part-time: minimum 10 semesters, maximum 14 semesters

MPhil/PhD

  • Minimum 2 semesters, maximum 4 semesters (full-time)

Master’s degree

  • Minimum 3 semesters, maximum 6 semesters
  • No part-time option
  • Minimum CGPA of 2.50 must be maintained

Postgraduate diploma

  • Minimum 3 semesters
  • Maximum 6 semesters
  • Minimum CGPA of 1.50 required

How to apply for FUTMINNA postgraduate admission

All applications must be completed online through the FUTMINNA postgraduate application portal.

Candidates should:

  • Create an account with valid email and phone number
  • Complete the application form with accurate details
  • Submit the form online before the deadline
  • Print the completed application form

Application opens Monday, 27 February 2026, and closes Friday, 20 April 2026.

Application fee

The application fee is N20,000, excluding service charges. Payment is made online via the Remita platform using MasterCard or Verve.

Transcript and referee requirements

All MTech, MEng, MPhil/PhD, and PhD candidates must send official transcripts to:

PhD candidates must upload their research proposals along with their applications.

Applicants must ensure that at least two referee reports are submitted online before the deadline.

Acceptance and registration

Successful candidates must pay a non-refundable acceptance fee of N25,000.

After payment, candidates must:

  • Present original credentials for screening
  • Pay school fees
  • Complete registration at their departments or centres

Failure to complete these steps within the given time will lead to loss of admission.
