NELFUND upkeep allowance rumour update by NBAN
The NELFUND Beneficiaries Association Nigeria (NBAN) has cleared the air on a story moving around among students. The story claims NELFUND has raised the upkeep allowance from ₦20,000 to ₦150,000.
In a statement dated 28 December 2025, NBAN called the claim unconfirmed and misleading. The group said there has been no announcement from the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support any increase in the upkeep allowance.
NBAN said it checked carefully and found no message from NELFUND on its official website or through its verified communication channels. The Association said changes can happen later if policies get reviewed, but right now nothing like that has been communicated.
Because of this, NBAN told all beneficiaries to ignore the rumour and wait for updates that come straight from NELFUND through its recognised platforms. It is better than chasing screenshots and voice notes.
NBAN also said it will keep sharing correct updates, support beneficiaries across Nigeria, and speak with the right authorities when needed. The group said any real change about NELFUND allowances will be shared quickly through its verified channels.
The statement was signed by Aminu Aliyu Ahmad, National President of the NELFUND Beneficiaries Association Nigeria, for Nigerian student loan beneficiaries.
NBAN listed its contact line as +234 916 124 7589. It also mentioned its social media pages on X (Twitter) as @NELFUND NG and on Facebook as NELFUND Beneficiaries Nigeria Association.
