NWAG 2026 Scholarship Awards open for female undergraduates in Nigeria

The Nigerian Women Association of Georgia, USA, has opened applications for its 2026 Scholarship Awards.

The group will award 111 one-time scholarships to female undergraduate students currently enrolled in Nigerian universities. The awards will be shared across the country, with three slots for each State of Origin and three slots for the Federal Capital Territory.

Scholarship award amounts

NWAG has set three award levels for each set of winners:

  • Winner: $300
  • 1st runner-up: $150
  • 2nd runner-up: $100

All awards will be paid in the Naira equivalent.

Who can apply

The scholarship is open to female undergraduate students in Nigerian universities.

It is not open to final-year students. That rule stands clear; applicants need to check it before they start the form.

Documents required for the NWAG scholarship application

Each applicant must submit a completed application form with the required documents.

Proof of state of origin

The applicant must provide a letter of origination from the university or from a local government office.

Recommendation letters

The applicant must provide two letters of recommendation from any two of these persons:

  • Pastor or Imam
  • Village Head
  • Local Government Chairperson
  • University Lecturer or Head of Department

Academic recommendation

The applicant must also submit one recommendation letter from the Dean of Faculty or the School Head of Department.

Means of identification

A photocopy of the current university student ID card is required.

Passport photograph

The applicant must submit a current passport photograph.

Personal statement

The application must include an explanation, not more than half a typed page, stating why the student needs and should receive the scholarship.

Essay submission

Each applicant must submit a two-page, double-spaced, type-written essay on the stated topic.

Essay topic and AI use rule

The essay topic is:

“How can Nigeria harness renewable energy and sustainable practices to create jobs and drive economic growth?”

NWAG states that applicants may use AI tools for up to 25% of the essay submission. The remaining 75% must show the applicant’s original ideas and voice.

Excessive AI use may lead to disqualification.
