- Full-time: 2 semesters
Master degree
- Full-time by coursework and long essay: 3 semesters
- Full-time by coursework and research thesis: 4 semesters
Master of Philosophy
- Full-time minimum duration: 4 semesters
Doctor of Philosophy
- Full-time minimum duration: 6 semesters
- Part-time minimum duration: 8 semesters, subject to approval
Admission requirements
Postgraduate Diploma programmes
A candidate may apply if the person is:
- a graduate of OAU with at least a Third Class degree
- a graduate of any approved university with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division
- a graduate of any approved Polytechnic with HND not below Lower Credit
Master degree programmes
A candidate must have:
- a minimum of Second Class Lower Division honours degree from OAU or any approved university
- HND with Lower Credit and a Postgraduate Diploma from OAU
Master of Philosophy degree
A candidate must have:
- a minimum of Second Class Lower with 50 to 59 percent at Masters level, or
- a Master degree with at least 60 percent
Doctor of Philosophy
A candidate must have a Master’s degree with research thesis and coursework average of not less than 60 percent.
Very important notice for applicants
All candidates must meet the O’Level requirements. This means five credits, including English and Mathematics where required, in not more than two sittings.
Every applicant must also sit for the screening exam. OAU made that point Plain enough; the screening test is mandatory for all applicants.
How to apply for OAU postgraduate admission
The application is online only through the OAU postgraduate application portal.
A candidate should follow these steps:
- Log on to the portal.
- Create an account.
- Wait for the system-generated password sent by email.
- Sign in and complete the application form correctly.
- Click Remita to pay the application processing fee.
Documents required for submission
Applicants must submit these supporting documents in duplicates:
- University Degree Certificate
- NYSC Discharge Certificate
- O’Level Certificate such as WAEC or NECO
- Birth Certificate or Declaration of Age
- Marriage Certificate, where applicable
Research proposal requirement
Applicants for certain programmes must submit a research proposal.
- Masters with Research Thesis: 3 pages
- PhD: 5 pages

OAU postgraduate application fee

- Research and PG Diploma: N20,000.00
- Professional programmes: N25,000.00
- Subsea Engineering: N30,000.00
- DBA and DPA programmes: N50,000.00
- Geospatial or Land Admin: US$100.00
- All international applicants: US$100.00

All applicants must comply with the University’s postgraduate regulations after admission.
The school also stated these points:
- Sponsors must not submit multiple applications for candidates; this leads to disqualification.
- Applicants already enrolled in a programme must declare it.
- Failure to declare current enrolment will lead to forfeiture of studentship.
- Transcripts must arrive before the admission exercise begins.
- Admission letters will be sent through email.
