NWU Approved Programmes for 2026/2027 Academic Session

Northwest University, Kano, has received approval from the National Universities Commission, NUC, to establish more academic programmes after a successful resource assessment and verification exercise.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, informed members of the university community and the general public of the approval. The official letter, dated 26 February 2026 and marked NUC/AP/S37/VOL.1/25, states that the Executive Secretary of the Commission approved the full-time mode of the programmes at the Main Campus from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The notice states that the courses will run in full-time mode at the Main Campus. The approval takes effect from the 2026/2027 academic session; that date sits at the centre of the update.

Why the approval was granted

The notice says the approval came after a resource assessment and verification exercise.

It also states that a panel of experts examined the human and material resources available for the smooth take-off of the proposed programmes. That review came first; the approval followed after.

What the Vice-Chancellor said

Professor Amina Salihi Bayero said the approval stands as one of the achievements recorded within her first months in office as Vice-Chancellor.

She also said the development reflects her administration’s commitment to academic expansion and alignment with global best practices. The Vice-Chancellor added that the university will continue to strengthen its human and material resources for the growth and standard of the programmes.

What this means for the 2026/2027 session

From the 2026/2027 academic session, Northwest University, Kano, will run these newly approved programmes in full-time mode at the Main Campus.

The update adds more course options at both undergraduate and postgraduate level; for applicants watching closely, that is the key point.
