Obafemi Awolowo University has opened admission into its Open Distance Learning undergraduate degree programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The admission notice lists B. NSc Nursing, B.Sc Accounting, B.Sc Agric Extension & Rural Development, B.Sc Business Administration, and B.Sc Economics. It also sets out the entry requirements, course length, and study format for each programme; the closing date is included as well.

Admission requirements and duration by programme
B. NSc Nursing
Applicants must be nurses registered by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, such as RN, RPN, RM, and RPHN.
Applicants must also possess West African School Certificate or GCE with credit passes in five subjects obtained at not more than two sittings. The subjects must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
Candidates will be invited for written and oral interview.
The programme runs for four academic sessions.
B.Sc Accounting
The Accounting programme has three entry paths.
O’Level admission
Applicants seeking O’Level admission must possess the Senior Secondary School Certificate, NECO, WAEC, or General Certificate of Education at Ordinary Level with credit passes in five subjects. These subjects must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any other two from Government, Financial Accounting, and Geography, obtained at not more than two sittings.
The duration for O’Level admission is five years.
Direct Entry to Part II
Direct Entry applicants to Part II must possess five credit passes in the GCE or an equivalent examination, with at least two at the Advanced Level, provided subjects are not counted at both levels of the examination. The Ordinary Level credit passes must include English Language, Economics, and Mathematics.
The Advanced Level passes must include Economics or Accounting, OND at Upper Credit level in Accounting or Banking and Finance, ATS-ICAN final stage certificate, final stage of Association of Nigerian Accountants, final stage of Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, or final stage of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
The duration for Direct Entry to Part II is four years.
Direct Entry to Part III
Applicants for Direct Entry to Part III may present HND in Accounting or Business Administration, final stage of ICAN certificate, ACA, ACCA, CFA, ACIB, ANAN plus HND or B.Sc in any discipline, and HND in Banking and Finance.
They must also have five credit passes in O’Level, including Mathematics, English, and Economics.
The duration for Direct Entry to Part III is three years.
Mode of study for Accounting
The mode of study is online and face to face.
B.Sc Agric Extension & Rural Development
The notice targets three categories of prospective students.
Science-based ND and NCE holders
Science-based ND and NCE holders without agricultural academic background will spend four years.
Science-based ND and NCE holders with agricultural academic background will spend three years.
Candidates in this group must:
- be serving agricultural extension workers, agriculture-related workers, community development workers, or self-employed with a minimum of two years post-qualification experience after ND or NCE
- be recommended and sponsored by the employer; self-employed applicants must be recommended by one of their post-secondary education teachers
- possess ND or NCE in agriculture or a related field from a recognised school
- meet the university’s minimum admission requirement of at least credit passes in five relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, in the West African School Certificate Examination or its equivalent
Science-based HND holders
Science-based HND holders without agricultural academic background will spend four years.
Science-based HND holders with agricultural academic background will spend three years.
Candidates in this group must:
- be serving agricultural extension workers, agriculture-related workers, community development workers, or self-employed with a minimum of two years post-qualification experience after HND
- be recommended and sponsored by the employer; self-employed applicants must be recommended by one of their post-secondary education teachers
- possess HND in agriculture or a related field from a recognised school
- meet the university’s minimum admission requirement of at least credit passes in five relevant subjects in one or two sittings, including English Language and Mathematics, in the West African School Certificate Examination or its equivalent
Transfer students
Transfer students from science-based first degree programmes from a recognised university will spend four years.
Candidates in this group must:
- meet the university’s minimum admission requirement of at least credit passes in five relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, in the West African School Certificate Examination or its equivalent
- have a minimum of 1.00 Cumulative Grade Point Average
Mode of study for Agric Extension & Rural Development
The mode of study is online and face to face.
B.Sc Business Administration and B.Sc Economics
The university gives the same entry rules for Business Administration and Economics.
General entry requirements
Candidates seeking admission into the three-year or four-year degree programme in Economics and Business Administration must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate, General Certificate of Education, or equivalent, with at least five credits including English and Mathematics.
Direct Entry requirements
Students must meet the minimum university admission requirements stated above.
They must also possess the General Certificate of Education or its equivalent, with at least two passes at the Advanced Level, or five credit passes of which at least three are at the Advanced Level, provided such passes are not counted at both levels of the examinations.
Degree requirements
To qualify for the degree of B.Sc Economics or B.Sc Business Administration, candidates must take and pass approved compulsory and elective courses.
A student may take an optional course, or replace it with another one, provided prior approval is obtained from the Head of Department or an appointed representative.
Students admitted through O’Level examinations must complete a minimum of 145 units.
Direct Entry students must complete a minimum of 113 units.
Mode of study for Business Administration and Economics
The mode of study is online and face to face.
