SUMAS NUC Accreditation: 15 Programmes Get Full Approval

The National Universities Commission has granted full accreditation to 15 academic programmes at the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno.

The approval followed the NUC accreditation evaluation exercise held between 28 October and 3 December 2025. The panels assessed academic standards, staff quality, infrastructure, laboratory facilities, library resources and general school readiness across the affected departments.

SUMAS Gets Full NUC Accreditation for 15 Programmes

The State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno, has secured full accreditation for 15 programmes from the National Universities Commission.

The accreditation followed a review by NUC panels, who checked the listed departments and their resources. The assessment covered teaching standards, personnel, facilities and support systems; no small matter for a medical and applied sciences university.

The programmes that received full accreditation are:

These courses now carry full NUC accreditation status as stated by the University.

Vice-Chancellor Reacts to the Accreditation

The Vice-Chancellor of SUMAS, Professor James C. Ogbonna, expressed gratitude to the National Universities Commission for the accreditation process.

He also commended the management, staff and students of the University for their role during the exercise.

Professor Ogbonna said, “The accreditation of these programmes is a strong validation of our commitment to quality education, academic excellence, and global best practices. We remain committed to sustaining and improving on these standards.”

Director of Academic Planning Speaks

The Director of Academic Planning, Professor Jerry Ugwuanyi, also praised the teamwork shown during the accreditation exercise.

He noted that the University community approached the process with determination and confidence.
