The Governing Council of the University of Uyo has appointed Professor Christopher Nyong Ekong as the 9th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university.
His appointment takes effect from 16 June 2026.
For members of the university community and the public, this gives a clear update on the outcome of the selection process carried out by the Council.
Governing Council Approves New UNIUYO Vice-Chancellor
The Governing Council of the University of Uyo announced the appointment after what it described as a rigorous and transparent selection process.
The process covered the review of applications, assessment of credentials, and interaction with shortlisted candidates; after those stages, the Council approved Professor Christopher Nyong Ekong for the position.
He will serve as the 9th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of UNIUYO.
Selection Followed Set Rules and Guidelines
The Council said the appointment followed the established legal framework and guidelines for the selection of a Vice-Chancellor.
It also stated that the process applied best practices and upheld fairness, merit, and integrity from start to finish.

Professor Christopher Nyong Ekong is a scholar of Economics with a record of service in teaching, research, and administration.
Before this appointment, he served as Chairman, Committee of Deans.
