AIFUE Debunks Fake Report Claiming Only 942 Students Admitted for 2024/25

The Management of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education (AIFUE), Owerri, has categorically refuted a viral online report falsely claiming the institution admitted only 942 students for the 2024/25 academic session, describing the publication as “malicious,” “puerile,” and “fabricated.”
In an official statement issued on November 9, 2025, by the university’s Head of Public Relations, Nnaemeka Ijioma, AIFUE dismissed the report published on theglittersonline.com.ng and circulated via Opera News as baseless and sensationalist. The institution warned that the falsehood, which linked the fabricated figure to Federal Government policy and suggested a risk of losing Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) funding, had spread across social media and mainstream press.
The university revealed that the correct admission figure of 2,428 students was publicly announced during its historic first matriculation ceremony held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the University Pavilion. The event, attended by thousands of students, parents, staff, dignitaries, and media, saw the then Acting Vice-Chancellor formally declare the breakdown: 2,383 Bachelor’s degree students and 45 Professional Diploma in Education students.
A simple Google search, the statement noted, returns over ten credible sources, including The Nation Newspaper, the university’s official website (www.alvanikoku.edu.ng), and verified Facebook pages, confirming the accurate matriculation figure.
AIFUE emphasized that admissions were processed through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), with data accessible only to JAMB and the institution, rendering the blogger’s claim of 942 students unverifiable and implausible.
The university, formerly a college of education, has been training degree students since 1981 in affiliation with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. It currently boasts a total student population of nearly 10,000, including UNN-affiliated students.
For the 2025/26 session, AIFUE has already released two admission lists, admitting nearly 2,000 students. Following JAMB’s extension of the admission deadline for public universities from October 31 to November 17, 2025, the institution is finalizing its intake and encouraging qualified candidates to switch their first-choice institution to AIFUE via the JAMB portal.
Available programs include B.A., B.Ed., and B.Sc. degrees across Arts, Education, Sciences, and Technology. Interested applicants are directed to visit www.alvanikoku.edu.ng for details.
The university highlighted its robust infrastructure, including experienced lecturers, functional laboratories, workshops, studios, and one of Imo State’s best libraries with e-library access. Four hostels are currently undergoing major TETFund-funded rehabilitation.
In a strong tone, AIFUE demanded the immediate removal of the offensive article by theglittersonline.com.ng and an unreserved public apology. Failure to comply, the statement warned, will prompt legal action.
The institution urged the public, stakeholders, and prospective students to disregard the misinformation and rely solely on information from its official website.
