Bingham University Announces 1,576 Graduates for 6th Convocation and 20th Anniversary Celebration

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Kuje Ayuba, has announced that the institution will confer degrees on 1,576 graduates during its 6th Convocation Ceremony, which also coincides with its 20th Anniversary Celebration. Speaking at a press briefing, he reflected on the university’s two decades of growth in academics, and research while reaffirming management’s commitment to innovation, student welfare and institutional sustainability.

Prof. Ayuba described the occasion as a moment for reflection and thanksgiving, celebrating not only the academic milestones of graduating students but also the university’s transformative journey since its establishment in 2005 by the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA).

He reaffirmed Bingham University’s mission to produce graduates who are academically sound, skilled, self-reliant, and God-fearing. ‘Today, the university runs 15 Faculties and 63 Departments offering 48 undergraduate and 59 postgraduate programme’. While the main campus is in Karu, the College of Medical Sciences and Teaching Hospital are located in Jos.

Highlighting the week-long activities, Prof. Ayuba announced that the celebration will feature a church service, convocation lecture, project commissioning, a photo exhibition, essay competition, sports events, and a Vice-Chancellor’s luncheon and awards. The grand convocation ceremony will hold on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the University Chapel.

A total of 1,576 graduands will receive various degrees and diplomas; 1,116 undergraduates and 460 postgraduates. The Vice-Chancellor also announced the unveiling of a commemorative publication, Bingham University @ 20, a 20-chapter book chronicling the university’s growth, innovation, and impact.

Prof. Ayuba noted that the graduation figures reflect steady academic growth and the institution’s commitment to producing graduates equipped for societal impact. He emphasized Bingham University’s transition toward a knowledge-based education model, citing the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Leadership Development and various research centers as drivers of innovation and skill acquisition.

Addressing institutional challenges, the Vice-Chancellor said the university faces similar issues affecting the broader education sector, including funding and electricity supply. However, management has taken proactive steps such as migrating to the Band A electricity category to improve electricity supply and adopting prudent financial measures to sustain operations and infrastructure development.

On student welfare, Prof. Ayuba reiterated that Bingham University remains steadfast in promoting both spiritual and academic excellence. that management continues to address students’ welfare and maintain discipline.

Commending the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Ayuba welcomed the introduction of the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), which integrate digital and employability skills into university programmes. He lauded the inclusion of fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Science as timely and transformative for the Nigerian university system.

In his closing remarks, the Registrar, Mr. Daburi Bello Misal, appreciated the media for their consistent partnership and support for the university over the years. “On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and management, ‘I sincerely thank the media for being reliable partners in promoting the image of Bingham University,” he said. “We value this relationship and urge you to continue engaging with us as we tell our stories and make improvements where necessary.”

In attendance were: the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Musa Dankyau, the Registrar, Mr. Daburi Bello Misal, the Busar Mr. Paul Yaki Yusuf, the University Librarian, Assoc. Prof Joshua Magoi, Deans and Directors.
