Fake Payment Circular Targeting Bayero University, Kano (BUK) Students

The fake circular asks selected students to make a payment of N50,000 before 1 December 2025. It presents this fee as a formal requirement and is written as if it came from the Office of the Registrar.

This message did not pass through any approved channel of the University. It was not signed or cleared by any authorised officer. It is a false payment request and should not be followed by any student or parent.

Faculties Named in the False Message

The forged circular mentions specific faculties that were part of the old Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies. These include:

  • Faculty of Languages, Linguistics and Theatre Arts
  • Faculty of History and Development Studies
  • Faculty of Islamic Studies and Sharia

Students in these faculties are part of the main target group for this fake notice. The University wants every student in these and other faculties to know that no such fee has been approved.

Official Position of the University

Bayero University, Kano gives the following clear points:

  1. The circular is fake.
  2. No payment of N50,000 has been approved, announced, or authorised by any lawful body of the University.
  3. The message did not come from the Office of the Registrar or from any other official source.
  4. The University does not issue fee notices through random social media posts or through individuals who have no mandate to speak for the University.

The University asks all students and parents to ignore the fake circular completely. Any money paid based on that message would not be an official payment to the University.

Safe Channels for Official Information

To stay safe from false messages, the University advises students, parents, and the public to use only trusted channels, such as:

  • Official announcements on the University website
  • Statements from the Directorate of Public Affairs
  • Notices and messages from recognised faculty offices

If any person receives a message that asks for money or personal data, they should check it first through these channels before taking any step. Simple checks can prevent loss of money and reduce worry for students and families.

Commitment to Protecting the University Community

Bayero University, Kano is focused on keeping its community safe from false messages and fraud. The University will take necessary measures against anyone who tries to mislead or exploit students through fake circulars or similar actions.

Students, staff, parents, and friends of the University are encouraged to share this notice so that more people are aware of the fake message and do not fall victim to it.
