Foundation Chambers Essay Competition 2025: For Law Students Only

If you’re a law student in Nigeria and writing doesn’t scare you, this might be a good shot at winning something bigger than just bragging rights. Foundation Chambers, known for its strong roots in maritime law, has opened entries for its annual essay competition.

Let’s be real, it’s not just about the prize money (though ₦250k is not beans). There’s also the chance to intern with the firm, which could open doors way beyond the classroom.

What’s the Topic?

This year’s topic is:

“Challenges and Prospects of Maritime Arbitration in Nigeria”

Yes, it sounds like one of those topics that make you want to close your laptop. But don’t panic. Read around it, talk to your lecturer if you must, and write from what you understand. They’re not expecting a SAN’s brief — just original, well-thought-out work from a student who took the time.

Who Can Apply?

Only undergraduate law students are allowed. Doesn’t matter if you’re in 200 level or final year, as long as you haven’t graduated yet, you’re eligible.

Prizes You Can Win

Now to the juicy part:

🥇 First Prize

  • ₦250,000
  • Internship at Foundation Chambers
  • A free maritime law book
  • Your essay published

🥈 Second Prize

One Last Thing…

This isn’t one of those online contests that go quiet after everyone applies. Winners from previous years have gotten internships and more. So if you think you can hold your own in legal writing, then don’t dull. This could be your time to shine a little.

Plus, who wouldn’t like ₦250k just for writing about a topic in their field?
