UNIPORT Postgraduate Admission 2025/2026 Requirements & Guide
The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the Postgraduate Admission into its various graduate programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session. This guide helps students understand the available programmes, admission requirements, duration, and how to complete the application process.

UNIPORT Postgraduate General Admission Requirements
O’Level Requirements
Every applicant must have credit passes in English Language and Mathematics.
Candidates who obtained their O’Level certificates before 2012 and do not have a credit in Mathematics may still apply for programmes in:
- Faculty of Humanities
- Faculty of Education
- Faculty of Social Sciences (except the Department of Economics)
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programmes
Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with Second Class Honours or Third Class.
HND holders need a minimum of Upper Credit.
For the Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry (PGDC), applicants with a Third Class are not eligible.
Master’s Degree Programmes
Candidates must hold at least a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree in a relevant course from UNIPORT or any recognised university.
For the Master’s in Education, candidates with degrees in other disciplines must hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) with Upper Credit.
Those applying for the MBA should have a strong quantitative background.
Holders of a PGD must have a CGPA of 3.50 or above to qualify for the Master’s level.
Ph.D. Programmes
Ph.D. applicants must have a Master’s Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 or its equivalent. Admission is based on interview performance and includes coursework and a qualifying examination.
MD/MS Programmes
- Candidates must be graduates of Medicine (MBBS) from UNIPORT for at least five years or confirmed academic staff of the university.
- In addition, candidates must hold a recognised fellowship qualification or an M.Sc. Degree in a related area.
Duration of UNIPORT Postgraduate Programmes
- PGDE: Full-time, 12–24 months; Sandwich, two long vacations of 8 weeks each.
- MBA: Full-time, 24–36 months; Part-time, 36–48 months.
- MD/MS: Minimum of 24 months.
- Ph.D.: Full-time, 24–60 months; Part-time, 36–84 months.
- DBA: Full-time, 3–5 years; Part-time, 5–7 years.
How to Apply for UNIPORT Postgraduate Admission
Applicants should pay a ₦15,000 application fee at any of these banks:
U&C Microfinance Bank, UBA, Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, EcoBank, First Bank, or Sterling Bank.
A ₦15,000 fee is also required for the Prospectus, payable to U&C Microfinance Bank Ltd, Choba (Account Number: 1100236739).
After payment, candidates can download the application form via the UNIPORT School of Graduate Studies portal.
Please note that payment of the form fee does not guarantee admission and is non-refundable.
Required Documents for Submission
Attach two copies each of the following:
- Degree or Postgraduate Diploma Certificate
- NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate
- O’Level Certificate
- Birth Certificate or Age Declaration
- Marriage Certificate or Change of Name (if applicable)
- Local Government Identification Letter
- Receipts of payment
Submit completed forms and attachments to the Documentation Unit of the School of Graduate Studies.
