Who the ceremony covers

The ceremony is for:

  • Newly admitted undergraduate students
  • Newly admitted postgraduate students

Other members of the university community may attend, but the key records and formal entry relate to the new students listed by each faculty.

What new students must do before the ceremony

New students have clear steps to follow before matriculation day.

1. Check the faculty list of registered students

Faculties are to:

  • Compile matriculation registers for all freshmen.
  • Display the list of registered matriculating students.

Students should:

  • Visit their Faculty Office notice board or the agreed display point.
  • Check that their names, departments, and other basic details are correct.
  • Report any error to the Faculty Officer at once so that records stay clean.

2. Pay for the matriculation gown (₦10,000)

Every matriculating student must pay the approved fee of ₦10,000 for hiring the matriculation gown.

Payment steps:

  1. Go to the UNIUYO eportals payment page.
  2. Choose the eBursaryCollect category.
  3. Select “Matriculation Gown”.
  4. Complete the payment as instructed on the portal.

After payment, students should print or save proof of payment. This proof will be needed before the gown is issued.

3. Collect the academic gown

The Stores Department will handle the collection and issue of academic gowns.

Students should:

  • Present proof of payment for the matriculation gown.
  • Collect the gown from the point and time given by their faculty or the Stores Department.
  • Keep the gown safe and clean for the day of the event.

Faculties are to make clear plans with the Stores Department so that the issue of gowns runs in an orderly way.

4. Stay informed on date, time, and venue

Faculties are urged to spread the word through:

  • Notice boards
  • Class briefings
  • Faculty channels, as approved by the university

Students should check these notices often so they do not miss any change in timing or extra instructions from their faculty.

After the ceremony: signing the matriculation register

Once the ceremony ends, students are required to sign the matriculation register at their Faculty Office.

Key points:

  • Signing is to be done immediately after the ceremony.
  • The register will be kept by the Faculty Officer.
  • The register is a formal record that the student has taken part in matriculation and accepted the pledge.

Students who fail to sign the matriculation register risk having their admission treated as invalid. Each student should see this step as a direct link to the legal standing of their admission.

Faculty roles and deadlines

The notice from management sets out clear tasks for faculties:

  1. Prepare the matriculation registers for all freshmen in the faculty.
  2. Display the list of registered matriculating students so that they can confirm their names.
  3. Make plans with the Stores Department for the issue and return of academic gowns.
  4. Support students in the payment process by sharing clear guidance on the portal steps.
  5. Ensure wide communication of the date, time, and venue of the ceremony.
  6. Produce the matriculation pledge for signing, and collect the signed copies.
  7. Keep the matriculation registers ready for signing just after the ceremony.
  8. Explain to students that missing the signing of the register may put their admission at risk.
  9. Submit the completed matriculation registers to the Admissions Officer on or before Friday, 5 December 2025.

The deadline of Friday, 5 December 2025 is firm. Faculty Officers are to plan early so that all registers are signed and checked before submission.
