UNICAL Postgraduate Admission Form | University of Calabar

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) Postgraduate Admission Form is now available for the 2023/2024 academic session. This is an opportunity for candidates to apply for postgraduate programmes leading to Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. UNICAL Postgraduate Admission Requirements

Application Details

• Forms must be completed with surnames first, followed by first names, and middle names last.
• Changes to application forms are not permitted after online submission without a fee.
• Applicants should only use titles like Mr, Miss, or Mrs.
• Programmes available include Ph.D., M.A., M.Ed., M.Sc., MPH, LLM, and PGD.

Eligibility Criteria

• Postgraduate Diploma (PGD): A minimum CGPA of 1.25 on a 5-point scale.
• Master’s Programmes: A minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a 4-point scale or 3.0 on a 5-point scale.
• Ph.D. Programmes: A minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale or 3.5 on a 5-point scale.

Candidates with Master’s degrees from recognised universities may credit relevant courses toward their Ph.D. programmes if accepted by the Postgraduate School. For further details, you can explore the UNICAL Postgraduate Prospectus.

How to Apply for UNICAL Postgraduate Admission

Application Process

1. Pay a non-refundable fee of ₦35,000.00 at any bank using the E-Transact platform for the Postgraduate School application form for the 2023/2024 session.
2. Obtain a printout with a unique PIN at the bank.
3. Enter the unique PIN and mobile number on the UNICAL Admissions Portal to access the application form.
4. Complete the form by following the provided instructions.
5. Print a copy of the completed form and concept note by clicking on the print button after submission.
6. Bring a printed copy of the form to the screening venue.

E-Scratch Card Process

• Visit any bank nationwide and pay on the E-Transact platform to purchase the Postgraduate School application form.
• Pay ₦35,000.00 and receive a payment slip.
• Log on to the UNICAL Admissions Portal using the PIN from the payment slip to fill out the form.

Concept Note Submission

Candidates must submit a concept note as part of their application:

• Ph.D. Programmes: Maximum of two pages.
• Master’s Programmes: Maximum of one page.

The concept note, typed online, summarises the research proposal and should include:

• Statement of the problem
• Relevance of study to society
• Study aims
• Justification
• Methodology
• Theoretical background

Note that failure to submit the concept note with the application will result in disqualification from the oral interview.

Transcripts

Ensure that academic transcripts are sent from previous institutions via courier to the Academic Secretary, College of Postgraduate Studies, University of Calabar, P.M.B. 1115, Calabar, Cross River State, by the deadline.

• Deadline for Transcripts: Must be received by the College of Postgraduate Studies by the screening day.
• Applications without transcripts will not be considered.

Admission Screening

The screening process includes:

• Part A: Computer-based test covering English, Logic, Mathematics, ICT, and General Knowledge.
• Part B: Oral interview based on subject area and concept note for Ph.D. and Master’s candidates.
• There is no oral interview for MBA, MPAS, and PGD programmes.
• Mock examination for computer fluency is required.
