Al-Hikmah University Announces Bursar Vacancy
Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State, has opened applications for the post of Bursar. The opening follows the end of the current Bursar’s term, which expires on 15 March 2026.
The vacancy follows the Al-Hikmah University Law of 2001, as amended. The University Council is asking qualified and experienced finance professionals to apply for the role.
About Al-Hikmah University
Al-Hikmah University received approval from the Federal Government of Nigeria in January 2005. It is a private, faith-based university with strong Islamic values.
The university runs undergraduate and postgraduate programmes with a focus on sound learning and good character. It has about 13,000 students across several academic units.
Academic areas include Humanities and Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Education, Law, Agriculture, Nursing Sciences, Computing, Engineering and Technology. The university also runs a College of Health Sciences and a Postgraduate School.
Role and duties of the Bursar
The Bursar serves as the Chief Financial Officer of the university. The role reports to the Council and the Vice-Chancellor and oversees all financial matters.
Key duties include:
- Leading efforts to grow internally generated income
- Planning and managing the university’s financial system
- Keeping proper control of funds and records
- Giving financial advice on all transactions
- Carrying out tasks assigned by the Council or Vice-Chancellor
- Showing strong skills in Information and Communication Technology
Required qualifications and experience
Applicants must meet the following conditions:
- A good first degree in Accounting or a related field from a recognised school
- Professional certification such as ICAN, ACA, ACCA, ACMA, or CPA
- A relevant Master’s degree
- Membership of a recognised accounting body
- At least 12 years of work experience after qualification
- A minimum of eight years within a university setting
- At least five years in a senior leadership role
- Service as Deputy Bursar for no less than three years
- Proof of regular professional training
- Strong character, honesty, and clear leadership ability
- Age not above 48 years at the point of resumption
Terms of appointment
The Bursar will serve one term of five years. Pay and other benefits match what is offered in many Nigerian universities. The Governing Council sets these conditions.

Referees must send confidential reports on the applicant’s conduct, academic background, and leadership ability to the same email address within the stated period.
