MOUAU agripreneur grant for agriculture graduates

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, has entered into a partnership with the British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation through the “Graduate Agripreneurs Project” to support the agribusiness enterprises of graduates in crop, livestock and aquaculture programmes.

The project is meant to encourage and support graduates so they can meet the rising demand for agricultural products in a sustainable manner. Under the scheme, four selected graduate agripreneurs, male and female, will receive one million, five hundred thousand naira, N1.5 million, each for their projects.

Who can apply

The call is open to a graduate of agriculture from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State. The eligible colleges listed in the notice are CCSS, CASAP, CNREM and CAERSE.

To qualify, the applicant must:

  • have completed the mandatory NYSC
  • be passionate about agriculture
  • be interested in agriculture as a business
  • be between 21 and 35 years old
  • have graduated within five years of the commencement of the project
  • have shown entrepreneurial skill through the establishment of, or involvement in, an agricultural enterprise

Conditions applicants must meet

The notice also sets out other conditions for interested graduates.

The applicant must be ready to establish his or her agribusiness within the university premises for the duration of the programme. The applicant must also be ready to train and support students on Farm Practical Year Training Programmes, FPYTP, and other trainees at the Centre technically.

The agripreneur must have a registered business, or be willing to register the business before the disbursement of funds. The applicant must also show access to the market, outside the University’s pre-identified market.

Another requirement stands out; the agripreneur must show the economic impact of the project through periodic reporting submitted to Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike and incorporated into the project’s quarterly reporting.

Grant application and selection process

All eligible graduates are required to submit soft copies of their grant application and project proposal to the Project Management Committee, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, for review and selection.

The deadline for submission is on or before Wednesday, 18 March 2026.

The notice states that proposals submitted after the deadline, and those that do not follow the specified format or meet the eligibility criteria, will be rejected.

What the proposal must contain

The proposal must include, though not limited to, the following:

  • poultry, livestock, agriculture or aquaculture to produce
  • relevance of animal, crop or aquaculture to socio-economic conditions
  • production and/or value addition experience in the chosen agriculture or aquaculture area
  • work plan and time frame, with each activity clearly stated
  • a detailed budget for eligible expenses, broken down by activity and line items
  • marketability experience
  • expected profit and sustainability
