OAU Releases Mid-Semester Test Dates and CBT Requirement for Large Classes

OAU Sets 19–24 January 2026 Mid-Semester Tests and Makes CBT Mandatory for Courses Above 250 Students

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife has released the schedule for the mid-semester tests for all newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session. An internal memorandum, signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor G.A. Aderoumnu, states that the University Senate approved the tests to hold from 19 January to 24 January 2026.

The memo sets a defined window; faculties and departments are expected to work within it.

CBT Becomes Mandatory for Courses Above 250 Students

The same memorandum sets a compulsory shift to Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode for all courses with an enrolment of more than 250 students. The directive applies to the forthcoming mid-semester tests and to the end-of-semester examinations.

The memo links the change to a Senate directive and the university’s stated focus on credible assessment processes supported by technology (the format change is presented as a requirement, not a suggestion).

What Faculties and Departments Are Expected to Do

Heads of Faculties and Departments have been instructed to comply with the approved dates and the CBT requirement for large-enrolment courses. They are also directed to make preparations and coordinate with relevant ICT support units, to support the move to digital testing for large classes.

A simple question sits behind the instruction: when the test period begins, will every large class be ready to run CBT as required?

Contacts for CBT Guidance and Enquiries

For technical guidance and enquiries on the CBT mode, the memo lists the following contacts:

  • Professor R.L. Ikono: +2348035102875
  • Professor B.O. Akinyemi: +2349053007111
  • Engineer O.A. Adewara: +2348033517445

Reminder on Compliance

The memorandum ends with a clear reminder that adherence to the approved dates, and compliance with the CBT requirement for large-enrolment courses, is mandatory.
