The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) has issued a public alert cautioning against individuals and groups falsely presenting themselves as intermediaries who can “facilitate” admission, hostel accommodation, or employment within the University.
According to the University, these impostors typically demand money or personal favours, claiming they can use special connections to secure entry, bed space, or recruitment slots. UNIABUJA stresses that these claims are entirely false and designed to defraud unsuspecting victims.
The warning is directed at prospective candidates, parents, guardians, and job seekers, noting that anyone can be deceived if a message appears official or urgent enough.
Common Methods Used By The Fraudsters
UNIABUJA highlighted several tactics frequently employed by these scammers, including:
• Circulation of fake admission letters to unsuspecting applicants
• Creation of cloned websites closely resembling the official UNIABUJA portal
• Use of fraudulent social media accounts impersonating University pages
• Deceptive phone calls, text messages, and online messages intended to pressure victims into quick decisions
The University noted that many of these schemes are deliberately polished to create a false sense of legitimacy and urgency, discouraging victims from verifying the information properly.
Official Position On Admission, Hostels, And Recruitment
The University made it clear that all admissions, hostel allocations, and recruitment exercises are conducted strictly through approved, transparent, and institutional procedures. UNIABUJA emphasized that no individual, agent, or third party is authorized to request or receive payments or favours on its behalf for any of these processes.
Any claim of having “inside connections” in exchange for money is therefore fraudulent and has no link to the University.
Guidance To The Public
Members of the public are strongly advised to ignore such offers and report suspicious approaches through appropriate channels. UNIABUJA stated unequivocally that anyone who chooses to engage with these fraudsters does so at their own risk, and the University will not be held responsible for any losses arising from such dealings.
Approved Offices For Enquiries
All legitimate enquiries regarding admission, hostel accommodation, or employment should be directed exclusively to the following University offices:
• SERVICOM Unit
• Directorate of Information and University Relations
Verified UNIABUJA Communication Channels
The University reaffirmed that official information is released only through its recognized platforms. For safety and verification, the public is advised to rely solely on the following:
• Website: UNIABUJA official website
• Email: info@uniabuja.edu.ng
• Facebook: University of Abuja (official page)
• Twitter (X): @UofANigeria
• Official phone lines: 0903 683 6734, 0803 306 3743
UNIABUJA advised that any message that does not align with these official channels, or that pressures recipients to act secretly or urgently, should be treated as a serious red flag.
