The student community of Ekiti State University is in a state of mourning following the tragic death of a student due to reckless driving. While mourning, it is essential to acknowledge that safety is a collective responsibility, and some incidents could have been avoided with more vigilance in personal conduct.
The EKSU Students' Union leadership is committed to students' safety and is taking the following steps: i. Issuing a formal warning to the owners of the truck involved in the recent fatality, demanding accountability and responsible driving standards on the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki axis. ii. Partnering with the University Management to plan a sensitisation programme, encouraging students to speak up before issues escalate. iii. Implementing strategic steps to bolster overall security and physical safety.
The Students' Union appeals to every student to exercise caution, patience, and refrain from acts that could negatively impact their lives. Prioritise safety above all else, and the union will work together to achieve this. With a heavy heart, the union commiserates with the families of the departed souls, praying for an end to sudden death in their midst.
