The Management of Sa’adu Zungur University has issued an official statement addressing the recent attack on a 200-level Biology Education student, Maryam Yakeem. Contrary to reports circulating online, the University clarified that the attack took place outside the university environment.
The Management stated that claims suggesting the incident occurred within the university premises are false and misleading. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fatimah Tahir, reaffirmed that the institution prioritizes the security of students and staff across all three campuses.
Through collaboration with internal security and external agencies, there have been no reported cases of insecurity within the campus borders. The Vice-Chancellor recently visited the State Commissioner of Police to strengthen security support for the university community.
The University’s Chief Security Officer and the Dean of Student Affairs visited the victim, Maryam Yakeem, at the hospital. Reports confirm that she is in stable condition and receiving adequate medical attention.
The Vice-Chancellor extended sympathy to the affected student, reiterating the University's commitment to safeguarding students' lives and property. The University expressed concern over the dissemination of unverified information, urging students, staff, and the public to remain calm, as all necessary measures are in place to ensure continued safety.
