The Management of Bayero University, Kano has issued a stern warning to students against engaging in the unlawful practice of buying and selling hostel bed spaces for profit. This act, along with submitting false applications, constitutes hostel racketeering and is strictly prohibited.
The university has outlined specific prohibited acts, including buying and selling hostel bed spaces for profit, which denies qualified students their rightful accommodation. Additionally, allowing other students to use personal details to apply for hostels with the intent to later transfer the allocated space for a fee or favor is also prohibited.
To guide students, the university has provided directives: students should apply for hostel accommodation only for themselves using their own valid student details. They should not pay or receive money for the transfer of a bed space and should not hold a bed space for another person under their name. Any person attempting to sell or buy a bed space should be reported to the Dean of Student Affairs or the Hostel Management Committee.
Violating these directives will result in full disciplinary action, which may include immediate revocation of hostel accommodation, suspension or expulsion from the university, and referral to law enforcement agencies for criminal offenses such as fraud or economic sabotage. Students can report cases to the Dean of Student Affairs or via email at studentaffairs@buk.edu.ng. It is essential for students to take note of this information and act accordingly.
