The University of Port Harcourt’s Students’ Union Government (SUG) has recognized mounting worries about the latest rise in tuition, noting that a number of students are now being asked to pay more than ₦150,000.
In a communiqué dated 17 October 2026, the Union’s Executive President, Hon. Justice Adiele Aleruchi Azubiuke, together with General Secretary Comrade Awolayefori T. George, highlighted the financial strain this hike imposes on learners and their families.
The SUG pledged to approach the appropriate university officials, request a clear explanation for the fee adjustment, and lobby for a solution that is equitable and reasonable.
Students were urged to stay composed and maintain solidarity, directing any grievances through the Union’s established channels, as the SUG reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding student interests and amplifying their voices.
