The Independent Electoral Commission of Bayero University Kano (BUKIECO) has barred any unauthorized campaigning ahead of the 2026 Students' Union Government election.

The prohibition was communicated in a notice dated 22 October 2026, cautioning candidates and their supporters not to undertake any campaign actions before the official campaign window opens.

The notice indicated that certain individuals and their followers have been conducting illicit campaign efforts, such as handing out promotional items and issuing public statements.

BUKIECO clarified that the formal campaign period has not yet started, and therefore all direct or indirect campaigning remains forbidden.

The commission enumerated the following actions as disallowed:

• Distribution of handbills, flyers, or any other promotional literature.
• Public promotion of candidates' names or party affiliations without authorization.
• Any conduct aimed at swaying voters prior to the official start date.

The body stressed that preserving the integrity of the upcoming election requires a controlled and equitable process that follows the approved electoral schedule.

Consequently, all prospective candidates are urged to adhere to the stipulated regulations and wait for the formal announcement that will lift the campaign ban.
