May, 05Views: 2537

Adekunle Ajasin University, AAUA staff and participants at this year’s Information and Communication Technology training programme organized by the Nigerian Communication Commissions, NCC. The training, tagged, “Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions, ADAPTI” was held on campus from April 25th to 29th, 2016.

No fewer than 110 senior staff (Academic and Non-Academic) of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, have taken part in this year’s Information and Communication Technology training programme organized by the Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC, tagged, “Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions, ADAPTI”.

According to Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde of the Digital Bridge Institute (a subsidiary of NCC), the five-day training, which took place in the Computer-Based Test Centre of AAUA, the programme was organized to train academic and non-academic staff of tertiary institutions on basic ICT office productivity tools, including the intranet, internet, use of e-teaching and e-learning facilities.

A cross-section of the participants who spoke with the Information Unit of the University last week Wednesday (Day 3 of the training), said the programme was very impactful and thanked NCC for the initiative.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Francis Oyebade, said the essence of programme was to enhance the capacity of staff for effective service delivery.

Prof. Oyebade said, “The essence of this training is capacity building. We have decided to continue to update ourselves on all of the required tools to carry out our assignments for effective service delivery. It has been tremendous. Even those that are very versatile in ICT tool have found something new. And some of us who are still learning the ropes have been able to gain a lot.

“AAUA is fortunate to be among the selected tertiary institutions. I think we are the only state-owned University so selected by the NCC for the training, and we are very grateful to the Commission.”

The DVC noted that the training was designed as a train-the-trainer programme and urged all the participants, who were drawn from all Departments and Units of the University, to pass the knowledge acquired onto their colleagues.

He urged the participants to put all they have learnt to practice.

The Director of Student Work-Study Scheme, Dr. (Mrs.) Iyabo Omoniyi, said, “This is a welcome development. Though I am not a novice in ICT, I have learnt new things that are very vital. Now when somebody brings a computer to me, I know what to do to find information about such a computer. Now I know other important sites to visit to get scholarly and dependable information. In all, the programme has been very impactful.”

Mrs. Temilade Olotuah of the Information Communication Technology and Application Centre, said, “The programme has been very impactful. Even those of us in ICTAC have acquired more knowledge regarding ICT and it will do us good if we can organize a mini workshop when we get back to our various units, such that those are not here can benefit.”

Mr. David Aladejebi, a lecturer in the Department of Social Science Education, said, “This is a well-organized training that is coming at the right time. Value has been added to the participants who have really submitted themselves to the training. I have taken time to submit myself to the training so that I will be able to pass the knowledge acquired to those that are not here.”
