The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that it spent N113.8 million to manage the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across seven international locations.

The examination, which took place on July 12, 2025, was conducted in Buea (Cameroon), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), London (United Kingdom), Johannesburg (South Africa), Lome (Togo), Cotonou (Benin Republic), and Accra (Ghana).

JAMB emphasized that this initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to provide Nigerian expatriates and other foreign candidates with access to tertiary education opportunities. It also aims to elevate the global standing of Nigerian universities while encouraging international students to consider studying in Nigeria.

In line with this international expansion, JAMB announced that the number of foreign students admitted to Nigerian universities will now factor into the evaluation for the National Tertiary Admissions Performance Merit Award (NATAP M-Award). This award honors universities for their achievements in enrolling foreign students.

A review of JAMB’s 2024 operations revealed that the UTME was held in eight foreign locations, including Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) and Banjul (The Gambia), which were not included in the 2025 list.

JAMB affirmed that its continued efforts to hold the UTME in foreign centres reflect its commitment to broadening access to Nigerian education, positioning the country as an increasingly popular academic hub for students in West Africa and beyond.
