The Department of Continuing Education, Bayero University Kano (BUK), has announced the commencement of its Adult and Second-Chance Education Literacy Centres, designed for individuals seeking basic education, practical skills, or a return to classroom learning after a long break.

According to the department, the programme covers Basic Literacy, Post-Literacy, Continuing Education, and Vocational Education. It is open to learners of all ages. Whether you are a young adult who missed formal schooling earlier or an older person hoping to improve reading and writing skills, the doors are wide open. At BUK, learning is not limited by age.

Locations of the Literacy Centres

The literacy centres are currently operating at the following locations:
    •    BUK Old Site (Staff Primary School)
    •    Rimin Zakara
    •    Rimin Gata
    •    BUK New Site (Department of Continuing Education)

The department also disclosed that additional centres will be opened soon. These new locations are expected to reach more communities across Kano and neighbouring areas, reducing the need for long-distance travel.

Class Days and Time

Registration and classes hold from Monday to Friday, as well as Saturdays and Sundays. Sessions are scheduled for:
    •    4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
    •    6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

The flexible timing is tailored for individuals who work during the day or manage family responsibilities, making it easier for adults to attend without disrupting their daily routines.

Registration Details

Registration forms are free of charge. Interested applicants can obtain forms from the Department of Continuing Education, BUK New Site, Gwarzo Road. Forms are also available via the following contact numbers:
    •    08062963634
    •    08165315016
    •    08053481945

The announcement was signed by Dr. Auwalu Halilu, Head of the Department of Continuing Education, Bayero University Kano. He encouraged members of the public to take advantage of the programme as a pathway to personal growth, empowerment, and better opportunities. After all, learning often begins quietly—but it has a way of changing everything.
