Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria has officially rolled out activities for the 2025/2026 academic session, and the university is not easing anyone into it. Freshers and returning students alike are expected to hit the ground running.
The confirmation came via a special bulletin issued on Friday, January 2, 2026. According to the university, the new session takes off immediately, in line with the approved academic calendar.
Registration Opens First — No Breathing Space
The university registration portal goes live on Monday, January 5, 2026. Once it opens, students are expected to complete their registration promptly. The message from management is blunt: delays are unnecessary and discouraged.
This directive covers all students—undergraduate and postgraduate, newly admitted and returning. No special categories. No exceptions.
Lectures Start One Week After
Lectures are scheduled to commence on Monday, January 12, 2026. That one-week gap is meant for sorting out registration, payments, and logistics.
Sounds generous? Don’t be fooled. One week disappears fast if you procrastinate.
Hostel Applications Open Same Day
Students hoping to secure on-campus accommodation should act quickly. The hostel accommodation portal also opens on Monday, January 5, 2026.
Bed spaces are limited, and allocation is strictly portal-based. Waiting “to see how things go” is a classic way to end up stranded.
Important Note For NELFund Beneficiaries
Students who applied for support under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) are advised to proceed with fee payments to meet registration deadlines.
University management has assured affected students that refunds will be processed once the loan funds are released. It may feel awkward paying ahead, but the university is firm on this arrangement to prevent delays.
Screening Runs Alongside Registration And Lectures
For newly admitted students, screening will take place simultaneously with registration and lectures. There is no separate screening period.
Fresh students are strongly advised to organize all required documents early. Trying to handle screening, registration, and lectures at the same time—unprepared—is a recipe for stress.
Bottom Line
The 2025/2026 academic session at ABU Zaria is starting on schedule, and the university expects students to match that pace. Planning ahead, tracking dates, and acting early will save you from unnecessary pressure.
No hype. No drama. Just a clear schedule—and a reminder that preparation beats panic every time.
