The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that prospective candidates for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can now generate their profile codes in preparation for the upcoming registration. This move aims to ensure a seamless registration process and prevent potential bottlenecks.
To register, candidates must first obtain their National Identification Number (NIN), which is a prerequisite for UTME/DE registration. For those who have not yet obtained their NIN, guidelines are available on how to apply, including the necessary requirements. It is crucial to ensure that all details, including name, date of birth, and other personal information, are accurate, as these will be used for all communications regarding the application, examination, and admission.
The process of generating a profile code involves sending a text message with the candidate's NIN to either 55019 or 66019. The message should be formatted as 'NIN' followed by the eleven-digit NIN number. For example, 'NIN 12345678901' should be sent to 55019 or 66019. It is essential to use the correct format to avoid errors. Once the profile code is generated, it cannot be changed, and biodata is automatically retrieved from the NIMC database.
Some common issues that may arise during profile code generation include 'Error 550/66019', which indicates an incorrectly formatted request, and 'Number Already Registered', which suggests that the phone number is linked to another profile. In such cases, candidates should use the correct command or retrieve the SIM card or use a new number. If 'Unable to Verify NIN' is displayed, candidates are advised to wait and retry later.
It is also important for candidates to note the warning regarding the use of henna, also known as 'Laali' or 'Lale', as it can obstruct the biometric verification process. Candidates are urged to safeguard their ten fingers during both the registration and examination processes, as successful biometric verification is essential for entry into the exam hall.
