The University of Ibadan Students' Union has taken a significant step to regulate transport fares within the campus. Through its Complaints Committee, also known as the Task Force, the Union has issued a revised schedule of intra-campus transport fares, effective immediately. This move aims to prevent transport operators from overcharging students and residents.
The new rates cover various routes across the institution, with prices ranging from ₦100 to ₦600, depending on the destination. The Union has made it clear that overcharging will be treated as extortion and will attract commensurate fines.
Key routes from the Main Gate, such as trips to Queens Hall, Mellanby, and SUB, will cost ₦100. Destinations like the Faculty of Technology, Law, and Social Sciences are pegged at ₦200. Longer distances, including Awo Stadium, Poly Gate, and Ajibode, will now cost ₦300, while the fare to Lakoto is ₦400. The highest fare of ₦600 applies to 'Car Drop' services.
Special rates have also been published for tricycle drops, with fares set at ₦300 for routes where a single passenger pays ₦100, and ₦500 for routes where the single-passenger fare is ₦200.
The Students' Union has urged students to report any cases of overcharging, reaffirming its commitment to protecting students from exploitation by transport operators on campus.
