The Rivers State Ministry of Education has officially addressed reports alleging high-handedness and extortion at the Rivers State College of Health Science and Management Technology. Following reports circulating in the media regarding the Department of Medical Imaging and Technology, the College Management briefed the Ministry to debunk the claims. The institution described the allegations as false and baseless, further clarifying that there are no plans to increase student fees. The Ministry emphasized that the administration of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, remains dedicated to providing quality and affordable education. The government maintained a 'zero tolerance' stance toward extortion and financial misconduct, harassment of students, and general misconduct within state tertiary institutions. Regarding the specific friction between students of the Medical Imaging department and their Head of Department, the Ministry assured the public that internal investigative procedures have been activated. The matter is currently being evaluated to ensure an amicable resolution. The Ministry urges students to follow due process in addressing issues and to report matters through proper channels rather than taking laws into their own hands. Signed: Dr. Peters Nwagor, Hon. Commissioner for Education, Rivers State. April 15, 2026
