Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) in Anyigba has achieved a significant academic milestone after the National Universities Commission (NUC) granted full accreditation to 27 programmes. The accreditation, which covers five postgraduate and 22 undergraduate programmes across various faculties and colleges, follows the October/November 2025 accreditation exercise.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, the university secured full accreditation for several undergraduate programmes in faculties such as Agriculture, Arts and Humanities, Computing, Law, Management Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and the College of Health Sciences. Additionally, all postgraduate programmes in the Faculty of Management Sciences received full accreditation status.
The NUC report, signed by Executive Secretary Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, specified that undergraduate programmes in Accounting, Business Administration, and Public Administration, all within the Faculty of Management Sciences, were granted full accreditation. Postgraduate programmes such as M.Sc. Accounting, Banking and Finance, Management, and Public Administration, as well as MPA Public Administration, also received full accreditation status.
Other programmes that secured full accreditation include Fisheries and Aquaculture in the Faculty of Agriculture, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing Science, and Pharmacology in the College of Health Sciences. The Faculty of Arts and Humanities saw Arabic, History and International Studies, Islamic Studies, Philosophy, and English and Literary Studies fully accredited, with Christian Religious Studies receiving interim accreditation.
The Faculty of Computing had Computer Science fully accredited, while the Faculty of Law secured full accreditation for its Law programme, including both Common and Islamic Law. In the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Botany, Industrial Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, and Zoology all attained full accreditation. Economics and Sociology in the Social Sciences also received full accreditation.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his support in providing necessary resources and an enabling environment. He noted that the government's investment in education is yielding tangible results. Professor Usman also praised the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Professor Marietu Ohunene Tenuche, for her role in the accreditation exercise, describing her leadership as pivotal.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of acknowledging the contributions of others, highlighting that institutional achievements are the product of collective and continuous efforts. He assured stakeholders that the university will build on its current accreditation status, aiming to take the institution to the next level of global preeminence.
The accreditation outcome reinforces PAAU's reputation as a centre of academic excellence in Nigeria's higher education landscape, with the university committed to sustaining high standards in teaching, research, and community service.
