KANO, NIGERIA — The Management of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has secured a final opportunity for its students to access the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). In a special bulletin released on Friday, May 8, 2026, the university announced that the application portal has been re-opened specifically to accommodate students who missed the previous deadline.
The portal is officially live as of today and will remain open until Thursday, May 29, 2026.
This final opportunity comes after a special request from BUK Management to NELFUND to consider students who had yet to complete their applications for the 2025/2026 academic session. The window is open to newly admitted students, fresh and non-graduating students, and other eligible students who have successfully completed their institutional screening.
To ensure a smooth process and avoid disqualification, the university has issued a set of strict guidelines for applicants. These include simultaneous submission of applications for institutional charges and upkeep, avoiding the use of microfinance wallets like Opay or Moniepoint for loan disbursement, and taking technical precautions such as avoiding special characters in name fields or other required data blocks.
Additionally, applicants are warned to use accurate email addresses and keep their passwords secure, as these are vital for tracking application status later. Eligible students who have cleared their university screening should visit the official NELFUND portal at portal.nelf.gov.ng to apply.
