The University of Benin Water Factory, initially established as a research and training venture, has undergone restructuring. This development has significantly enhanced its production capacity, enabling it to produce 8,000 bags of sachet water and 1,000 packs of bottled water daily.
In response to the increased production capacity, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edoba B. Omoregie, SAN, has issued a directive. The directive, based on a Visitation Panel Report and a subsequent Council directive, mandates that only UNIBEN water be sold and served on both university campuses.
Effective Monday, 11th May 2026, the sale and serving of other water brands (sachet or bottled) will be prohibited on both campuses. This new policy applies to all shops and events, with the exception of UNIBEN Water.
The university community, including staff and students, has been informed of this development. The Chairman of the Business Centres and Rentals Committee, along with the Chief Security Officer, are tasked with ensuring strict compliance among business operators within the university.
