The National leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has directed all Public Primary and Secondary School Teachers in Oyo State to withdraw their services from schools, starting from Monday, 1st June, 2026, until further notice. This move is in response to the continued detention of colleagues and learners by abductors, with no clear sign of their timely rescue and safe release.
The directive has been given to create awareness and prompt the government to intensify its strategies towards bringing the abductees back safely and without delay. The situation has created fear and hopelessness among teachers, discouraged parents from sending their children to schools, and caused panic and tension across all communities in the state.
While the NUT has taken this action, it urges its members to remain law-abiding and stay safe in their respective homes. The union and teachers across the country stand in solidarity with the victims and their families, as they continue to engage with the government for the safe return of the abductees.
