The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has offered automatic employment to an Ex-Corps member Daniel Oluwatobi, who served in Yobe State and lost his sight as a result of his involvement in a road accident while on election duty during the 2011 general elections.

During the presentation of the employment letter to Mr. Oluwatobi at a brief ceremony held at the NYSC Directorate Headquarters Abuja, the INCE Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu thanked the NYSC for the cordial relationship between the two organisations since the signing of the MOU between them in 2010.

The INEC Chairman appreciated the contributions of Corps members towards entrenching a credible electoral process in the country, noting that they were the most committed as far as INEC duties were concerned.

Professor Mahmood used the occasion to solicit the support of the NYSC during the forthcoming supplementary elections in Rivers, Kogi and Anambra States as well as this year’s governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States.

In his remarks, the NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Suleman Kazaure thanked the INEC Chairman for the visit. He also thanked INEC for the kind gesture of offering automatic employment to Mr. Oluwatobi.

The Director-General pointed out that there was the need to review the MOU between the two organizations.

He particularly emphasized the need to enhance measures towards the safety of Corps members during elections as well as the review of the allowance given to them and the insurance cover.

Speaking later in an interview, the Ex-Corps member Daniel Oluwatobi thanked both INEC and INEC for showing concern about his plight noting that with their intervention, he was now a happy person.
