Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) and the Federal Ministry of Environment okay Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA Laboratory Facilities.

Accreditation teams from the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) and the Federal Ministry of Environment have given pass mark to laboratory facilities at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, saying they are of international standard .Leading a team from the Institute, Mr. O. A. Ipinmoye said the mission of his team was for resource assessment and advisory on facilities at the University’s Julius Okojie Central Research Laboratory (JOCRL). Having gone round the facilities he described them as “state of the art with international standard”.

According to him, Laboratory accreditation is in stages and JOCRL has passed some preliminary stages. He therefore called on management to ensure constant maintenance of the equipment in the laboratory. Speaking on the quality of the structures on ground he said they are conducive for research and learning.

Ipinmoye who commended the safety gadgets in the laboratory called for constant maintenance and appreciated the effort of the management of the laboratory in registering for proficiency testing urging it to speed up the process. Ipinmoye commended the effort of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebiyi Daramola and his team for equipping and supporting the laboratory.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebiyi Daramola (fnaae) commended the thoroughness of the team. He said the investment in the laboratory is huge which was intended to meet international standard.

According to him, FUTA is a fast growing Institution that does not compromise standard. “Ours is a unique Institution with modest achievement. We know the importance of maintaining standard and that informed every step we take in our operations. We are into collaboration with world class Institutions”.

Leading a team from FME, a regulator in the Ministry, Mrs. Theresa Olayinka Ajiboye said what she saw in the laboratory and the interaction she had with staff of the Julius Okojie Central Research Laboratory further confirmed what she has heard and read about the University several years ago as the nation’s best University of Technology.

Ajiboye who commended the quality of the equipment in the laboratory also described the staff as “experts in their job”. She however recommended environmental studies and training for the staff. “For proper transfer of knowledge, your staff in the Central Research Laboratory needs rudiments of environmental studies and sampling. Also strive to improve on your internal documentation”, she added.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebiyi Daramola appreciated the objective assessment by the team, promising to look into areas mentioned for staff development and improvement in the services of the laboratory. “This laboratory serves a lot of stakeholders in the education and non-education sectors. Because of our huge investment therein, we will not compromise the standard that we have there. We will rather strive to improve. I can assure you that ours is a success story that will never go down”, Daramola concluded.
