The Yobe State Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Abubakar Mohammed, has said that with the return of relative peace in the North-East sub-region of the country, over 1,000 corps members are registered to serve in the state.

Mohammed disclosed this last week at a news conference in Damaturu, while briefing journalists on the “orientation of corps members,” before their postings to various employers of labour and educational institutions.

He said that the NYSC scheme is behind the rebuilding process towards a return of peace in North-East affected states of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states.
“We are ready and committed to orientate the registered corps members for the manpower requirements of Yobe state. This will also facilitate the development processes in the state, despite the six-year Boko Haram insurgency that destroyed many lives and property in the state,” said Mohammed.
He, however, noted that the NYSC scheme had been contributing immensely in the supply of labour to various organisations and educational institutions as teachers.

He said that the required workforce in Yobe state however; suffered serious setbacks, as corps members were no longer interested to serve in the state, because of insurgency. “As the security situation improves, corps members are gradually accepting to offer their services to this state.”

Mohammed also assured that with the gradual return of peace in the affected sub-region, NYSC would provide the manpower requirements that could accelerate the development process of the three affected states.
