Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has explained why he continues to honor his teaching commitment at the University of Ilorin despite his current role with the tertiary examinations board.

An alumnus and former vice-chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Oloyede believes that a temporary assignment outside academia should not prevent any lecturer from fulfilling their teaching responsibilities. He emphasized that teaching is his passion and that his students should benefit from his extensive experience, even while he serves the nation in other capacities.

Oloyede praised the University of Ilorin for its exceptional leadership and personnel, predicting that the institution will continue to excel in all areas. He urged public servants to always act appropriately and responsibly.

He made these remarks after delivering a testimonial lecture to first-year students from the Department of Religions in the Faculty of Arts.

Oloyede, a Professor of Islamic Jurisprudence and Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), stressed that "doing the right thing at the right time, particularly by those in public office," is essential for the country's and its people's progress. He added, "if everyone cleans their corner, everywhere would be clean."

In related news, the Department of Criminology and Security Studies at the University of Ilorin has introduced self-defense and combat training as a vocational activity for its students. This initiative was announced by Dr. Adedeji Saheed Oyenuga, an Associate Professor at Lagos State University (LASU), during the inaugural training session at the university's Indoor Sports Hall.

Although the training could not be immediately added to the curriculum due to a late proposal, the university recognized its importance and decided to offer it as a vocational activity, with plans to incorporate it into the curriculum in the future.
